The people in these threads? Sure maybe it's not stricte "to read VNs", but it's for doing stuff that LLMs can do nowadays, hence it becomes a mostly pointless skill to have.
i.e if you're not learning to read japanese for the joy of moonrunes (lmao) you're wasting your time.
Hragana etc and romaji/grammar are worthwhile though since you get to actually speak the language and it's useful for watching media or irl and doesn't take an insanely retarded amount of time.

Sure, enjoy being a rare case. it's still dumb to encourage people to learn it for any purpose other than having fun though which why these conversations even happen itt - no one says to do it for fun.
>hardships and issues
reading pace is awful for a long time and you keep running into "what the fuck is he doing with that kanji" (kikokugai.webm) situations which is unique to asian rune languages in comparison to roman alphabet. Even if it's 'not particularly hard' (how many years does it take to get there?) it's still a thing
I'd say it's not quite as easy to lookup kanji as it is a word but technology solved that too, so w/e.
but ye as long as you have fun with it and the challenges and promote it for that reason it's fine. My issue is stricte with shilling it as a practical thing or trying to lie to people about state of technology.
