Andrey Kostin, Chairman of the Board of Russian VTB Bank, explained that the issues in Russian economy are caused by military spending and sanctions:

"Over the past week, he [Putin] has twice stated that high defense spending is the cause of inflation in our country.

I suggest that we always assess the current situation based on the specific situation in which the country finds itself. These are large military expenditures, which, in addition to being large and part of government spending and stimulating the development of certain sectors of the economy, do not produce goods that then enter the market. These goods disappear somewhere, and therefore, supply does not increase in the market, but spending grows.

And the second reason that cannot be ignored when we talk about our modern life is, of course, the huge number of sanctions. The president mentioned that there are around 28,000 sanctions, which make many processes both more expensive and more complicated."
