The largest cause for trading natural resources between nations is to make consumer goods that go almost entirely to the US, so if you think you'll just stop sending them over here, then you're planning on cutting your entire trade, which means the entire world will stop trading at the same time. Or, you're gonna pay the tariffs. You'll do the latter.
