The sports movie genre does go that way. The best player currently is some dictatorial asshole does something to make sure he isn't worthy of being the champion. I think they have this because they want more investment and don't want to acknowledge that the main characters goals to beat the champion are regardless of what kind of person they are.

I prefer cartoons where the league owners and officials are the real bad guys and the current best in the league is just another player who is just doing better than some others.
