Donald trump is basically a New York liberal. Even the people who voted for him knew that. The only people who don't know that are superficial hard-core partisan liberals who do not have a memory that goes beyond the last election cycle. Beyond the relatively small MAGA cheerleader base, a lot of Trump voters can identify which policies are either (1) a continuation of Democrat policies or (2) policies that liberals/progressives used to favor before Trump pursued those policies and started marketing them with his characteristic jingoistic brand-naming.
So, yeah, I knew it was a joke -- but it's also not really a joke at all.
There is no functional difference between the 2 parties.
This means that all of the hate liberals have for MAGA is unwarranted and irrational if they were at all capable of looking past the partisan name brand and culture war distractions.
