From pure logic, if you wanted to hide illegal activity from surveillance, wouldn't it be in a remote place, where basic infrastructure is non-existent, the environment itself is lethal without expensive preparation, in an unpopulated area away from civilization?

Say, if someone was taken against their will to such a place, where going outside is guaranteed death, wouldn't that be a perfect prison?
