that's a key part of the issue here, established artists are making music to satisfy their current fandoms and they're not trying to cast the biggest net possible anymore to fish for a radio hit

so it's totally possible for a BTS song to hit top 10 global with 0 mass appeal
same thing goes for the taylor swift album by the way, those songs also hit top 10 global with 0 mass apeal
just appeasing their core fandoms

but does that explain why kpop is dying? lack of the GP tuning in? it doesnt feel quite satisfactory, it's a symptom not necessarily the cause
