Back then there was a lot more interage interaction and the inherent affection/love/sex involved. I had that with an older 20 something lady and more I am sure. I miss the people I knew along the way, but I also leaven it with if they had never gone then I'd have never met people I met later. It's bittersweet.

I think only if you are well and truly alone and can just go an hero in the wilderness you'll hurt someone for going. I had the same feelings but I resolved to keep going for others and only when I have nobody who'd care if I go nobody whose lives I make a bit better by being around can I check out.

I'd be curious at what stage it was no longer normal to grow old with your friends. Your pic has it in the 50s, but was it then, was it the start of industrialization and being able to travel more for work, or was it always?
