Dwarven greed is probably the second biggest thing after smithing.
I dont get how that can be upsetting or unexpected.
No matter where in mythology or literature you look, they always extort eachothers treasures and hoard gold, they whip slaves to mine gold for them, they dig too deep and unleash some monster.
Even a mongoloid disney-american would know that they mine for gems and sing about getting rich.
