I think it disabled itself because it noticed it's in Indian airspace without a flight plan stating it's going to be doing that. So some onboard protection against defecting or smuggling it to BRICS got triggered.
If I'm correct, this might be weaponisable by spoofing GPS signals to make the plane thing it's in BRICS territory even when it isn't. If something like that can be achieved through spoofing GPS signals.

Weren't they? I assume because the electronics/avioncs are bricked as a result geolocation based anti-defection/anti-smuggling protection and they need to be replaced and that's not something which can be done in the field, even with an LM team dispatched.
Moreover, I think the LM team were dispatched not to fix it in the field but to correctly disassemble it for transport aboard a cargo plane. I don't think taking the wings and maybe landing gear off of it without damaging it is something just anyone can do. And that that's the whole purpose why an LM crew was sent.
