Makes sense, I think there comes a point in introspective development where you need other people who understand you to be there to keep you from sliding back into old ways of thinking when faced with difficulty.
The way I started to get around this issue was by embracing the abstract thinking I'd suppressed and changed my self-image to something untethered. I've always struggled with not wanting to put myself above others but still retained an ego of not feeling like I'm below them either which made having self-confidence impossible until I finally put myself "aside" from others rather than above them. Obviously this new perspective that helped me won't realistically help anyone else, but it's just an example for how bizarre a solution to problems like this can be.
I'm sure you can find a way to make it work for you, just remember that your brain hates change and will find ways to hide potential solutions from you with rationality.
