If you try playing Elden Ring like a Souls game you are unironically doing it wrong. Like you can spam rollslop if you want to and it will carry you through most of the game, but that isn't the actual meta and is the reason why so many people found bosses like Melenia are so hard for the average rollslopper. The secret is that Elden ring is a mixed system. Some bosses you need to roll, sure. But there are some bosses coded to hard counter that shit who are completely venerable to parry. Hell the true final boss of the DLC is trivialized by just using a shield, blocking, and then taking an AoO between his move spam.

Also learn to fight without auto-lock because there are bosses who are designed to specifically exploit people who use Auto-lock to fuck with you like the Divine Beast. If you learn how to fight without using it then those bosses lose their biggest advantage which is fucking with your camera to throw you the player off your game.
