VR thread mentioned Sonic Adventure 3 might've been a thing if the Dreamcast continued, which is news to me.
What's surprising is that the pre-production notes for Sonic Adventure 3 were entirely shelved for the next few mainline games, starting with Sonic Heroes. A lot of people thought the 2006 game was supposed to be Sonic Adventure 3, but it's wholly unrelated to the original Dreamcast concept documents despite the similar structure. Then when they revisited the idea, it evolved into Sonic Unleashed (aka Sonic World Adventure), seemingly removing the broader Adventure elements in response to 2006.
I know Iizuka has expressed hope that the real Sonic Adventure 3 would be make one day (I think he said it in one of the rapid-fire Frontiers interviews) but I just thought it was interesting that Sonic Unleashed was actually the closest we got.
