Obviously because Germany is the most significant, important and well connected state in central Europe.
Russia is currently attacking its fellow slavic brother nation Ukraine, carelessly wasting numerous of its own slavic soldiers and often killing civilians.
Besides the US and Great Britain, Germany is the most significant contributor towards the defense of Ukraine.
Without actually putting a strong enough military force inside Ukraine, Russia sees trying to continue conquering Ukraine as opportune and doesn't take the western side seriously.
Understandably, slavs prefer to have Ukraine and its citizens intact and prefer a trustworthy and moral, strong European Germany over an erratic, unpredictable and literally genocidal Russia.
