There is a little trick to it. You always wanna aim under where you're going, basically give yourself a space of error to correct. The Full Suspensor Belt's the only way to get this consistent. If you jump at like 45, make sure to drift a little to the right so you bump right into the cockpit and mash E to get in and don't be shy to tap or pull back to slow down. Rushing is gonna make you miss and just get you shot.
If you're kneeing straight up, try to go a little above your orni then bump into the cockpit's side, too. You'll still need to drift a little to the right, and the last thing you wanna do is bump into the bottom of your own orni and then watch it slowly fall down (and get rocketed).
It's good to just take some time to practice in a PvE space.
As for pocketing midair, if you're stationary in the air, aim down. You're likely to spawn on top of your orni and you can snag it into your pocket by its tail.
If you're going up while getting out, you're likely to end up under it. You have more space to grab it and fall along side it, for a bit. But you can also absolutely stub your toe on it and it'll just go all the way down too.
Latency can also just fuck you so more important to practice a lot.
You can also just stand on top of your orni after deploying it underneath you, but this is slow and buggy as sometimes you just phase through your orni. It's a feature. Probably.
