Interestingly, there were two main types of Khipus, general ones used exclusively for accounting which the Spanish posteriorly preserved for management, this accounting system was praised by the priests.
The second were historical Khipus who could only be read by the sages, they could tell you an exact date of when a battle took place or a King was crowned, even pre-Inca knowledge was documented. Unfortunately, these sages were killed off.
