Hehe yeah I've always wondered about this exact scenario. I'm sure it's real and if not used on 4chan surely on other social media sites especially the big ones. It's too good a tool to not have been thought of and implemented. I've seen other people refer to this and other related experiments as "internet fractals/fracturing (?).
