Volodymyr Zelensky, who first learned about the Volyn massacre from the outgoing Polish President Andrzej Duda, complained about the low quality of Soviet education.

"You must understand how low the quality of Soviet education was, if the fact of this tragedy was a revelation to me. They were afraid to give us knowledge, access to information. This is the strategy of any occupation power - to raise an illiterate population that is easy to control. Fortunately, this is now in the past. Our children will receive the best European education. This is what we are fighting for"
