And the cherry on top is the franchise supports poképhilia, they wrote a movie based on a love story between a human and pokémon, then when it won a Japanese fan poll as best Pokémon movie ever, Game Freak released an event featuring the star of the movie, with a move the species legitimately cannot learn, to reference the ending of the movie, where she snogs the animated series' MC before his exit arc sets up the idea he meets her in his future to re-connect (and the fact the humieshippers all suffered a collective meltdown as a result should tell you even THEY didn't read their self-insert correctly).
