FT: the International Criminal Court issued an indictment based on a statement calling for an investigation into the role of the Russian financial system, as well as the personal involvement of Finance Minister Anton Siluanov and Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina in the war in Ukraine, it would be virtually unprecedented. This was the opinion of Federica d'Alessandra, an expert on international law at Oxford University and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
She said that there had not been such a prosecution in an international tribunal since the Nuremberg Trials after World War II.
"If the ICC decides to initiate a case, it will certainly be a huge contribution to the development of a legal field that is rarely used. However, it will also face significant challenges in aligning its decisions with existing precedents, as there are very few of them," she added.
