The Russians stopped hearing about them like 20 years ago, they were actually more popular abroad then at home.

In early 2000s Russia was ultra-liberal and progressive, I even remember having a class in school telling us about how it's okay to be gay or something. The gay tolerance or something, tolerance was a big word that's everywhere.
Then at the snap of the finger Russia turns on a dime, makes a complete ideological 180 and heads for traditionalism. I'm not sure what exactly triggered that, perhaps in 2007 Putin realized that the west has no intention of ever being friends and we can't ever appease them enough, so then in 2000-somethig there was a sudden ideological U-turn. Russia flipped from "gay is okay" to "family values" out of fucking nowhere.

The anti-Russian liberashkas who hate everything about Russia are the outcome of that shock, they failed to adjust and still continue to see the ultra-liberal degeneracy as freedom, or virtue, or something. They hate Putin and Russia itself now. They look at the LA homeless junkies tent camps and think that this is a signifier of their freedom or prosperity
