Speaking of LA, I've seen fujos who are invested in LA say that Japan is trying to catch up in recent times to Thai BL and is making a bunch of LA BL to see what sticks. Though, I don't think they can compete with a market that primarily hosts their BL for free on youtube in half a dozen languages. Maybe Japan will be doing higher production oriented shows by making it available via paid streaming services? But even then, Japanese live action in general is mostly a miss for me.
