If anything the internet only exacerbates the problem by enabling people to live not just in the past, but within their own solipsistic fantasies indefinitely. Sure I'm projecting a bit, but I know I'm not the only one like this. I was a maladaptive daydreamer at an early age and the internet provides endless fuel for living in your own head.
