this guy does seem like an extreme version of the legalists, and the "socialism with chinese characteristics" is just legalists with a new coat of paint, especially since they found socialism as a good vessel for their ideals, of course legalists have been a major faction for a thousand years in china before socialism was even invented, contrasted against the confucianists, who value virtue, morals and traditions over cold calculating meritocratic efficiency, that the legalists consider more important, both of these are pretty "socialist" factions in the sense that they value social harmony and society as a whole over the individual, their difference is just that confucianists say that social harmony needs to be achieved through virtue and morals while legalists say that morals are irrelevant and being pragmatic and efficient is what matters for society as a whole to prosper, the third faction that is rather small in comparison but shows up during chinese history every now and then are the daoists who value individual self realisation over society, and say that your only goal in life should be finding harmony with nature (being one with the dao) and improve yourself as an individual, not worry about society or other people and their problems, and consider any top down control to be a violation of wu wei (NAP) and you should also avoid trying to control others through any sort of force, of course you're allowed to use force when legalists try to tread on you though
