Not if you consider them two different characters, since they don't share memories. In fact, I can argue that the existence of Chiaki from DR3 gives another emotional layer to Chiaki from SDR2. But yes, I agree with you on everything else. The second game left a lot of things vague, but they worked in the context of ‘having an uncertain future but still moving forward to achieve it.’ The anime did a terrible job filling in the gaps and only raised more questions.
