I understand that this is in part because it's the texture underlayer for the waist/belt piece for the male version of the armour. Unfortunately it does also mean that it looks like shit on the femtsun version I've mashed up.

The bits that aren't so dark on the normals and environment maps reflect just fine with the chitin_e_ebony cubemap. There's a tool that I should be able to use that can make _M and _N textures, I've just never figured out how to actually use the tool.
