Tonally about the same as FoE, although structurally a lot different. Valiant Rome's arc is either to be a tragic death in someone else's story, a la Steel Hooves in the original FO:E, or to become an epic hero of the Wasteland and the Iron Lord of New Pegasus or something; there's not really an in-between (particularly since he's from a tabletop game). The big thing different for Rome compared to standard FoE MCs is that he never really got to have his 'loss of innocence' moment since he started at the bottom and had to be uplifted. I figure in a normal story he'd be a secondary character for that reason.
Unless I wrote something based on his time growing up I guess. That'd be more similar to Band of Brothers but in FoE, which sounds pretty cool now that I think of it.
