Nope. Alchemists don't need a Magus Crest, a top tier origin, or a lot of magic circuits to thrive. Being an alchemist is all about your IQ. You use magic to enhance your body, your mind (to the point where you have thought partitioning, a photographic memory, and thought acceleration), make conceptual items (like the wires that Sion uses read people's memories and souls or the philosopher stones that Paracelsus made), and make artificial life (like the Einzberns did with Illya).
As long as you're high iq, you could thrive as an Alchemist
