The way we do warfare is that we have separatists on the ground that have been trained and cultivated by US intelligence for years (in Iran's case Kurdish, Azeri, and Baloch separatists), we have a bunch of mercenaries furnished Erik Prince do some of the important strategic operations, and then we maybe send in US, British, Israeli, and/or Ukrainian special forces military officers to do other strategic operations that we never admit to doing publicly for 70 to 100 years or something.

That's how we do a modern coup. We have mostly other locals do our dirty work for us. We cultivate a local political class (ultimately connected to US and British educational institutions and intelligence cut-outs) who will beg for America and Israel to be their new masters, we send in mercenaries, and we send in special forces. The ground troops are never seen and never reported on, but they're there anyway.

Now, that's if it's successful.
Iran is a huge country. If we even try to reinstall their monarchy for them, it would likely be yet another forever war. Perhaps for the sake of avoiding a forever far, the Trump administration won't go full regime change on them. But, who knows?
I see him as a continuation of several previous administrations.
