I think you're being a bit cynical about it by mashing it at together. Earlier G4 was really just about filling a journalism void regarding videogames. They had easy content with high viewership and all they had to do was relay information from various gaming magazines; this was when G4 was enjoyable to me. During their "weird anti-japanese bias" I discovered Katamari. I got to watch X-Play and see reviews for games I never heard of, AotS for videos I hadn't seen, and Cheat for Kristen Holt's legs.
