My take on European success and wealth is that they stole.
You cannot create wealth unless you steal it, this is a themodynamical law. Basically to create energy you need a source. And to create wealth you need to steal. You cannot create wealth, it has to come from somewhere. And Europeans colonized Africa, stole its resources&became rich.

This was all there is to "the Great Divergence".
