The people Tony's extorts are honest working white men that are often unprepared to deal with the world of crime.
I think the incompatibility shows itself most blatantly when Tony tells Carmela that she has no right to be angry at his infidelity because she "knew what she was signing up for." The difference in values between the Italian man and American woman are astounding, but Tony thinks he can bring Italy with him to America. As we all know this doesn't work out for him and should be a warning to all immigrants: if you come to America it's to be American, not to enjoy the good parts of America while bringing the worst parts of your home country with you.
