Yes. Satan wants us to focus on being miserable and be distracted from the Glory of The Most High... even if that Glory is nowhere to be found on Earth.
Personally I wallow in both misery and in remembrance of the Creator's brilliance, the latter ends up being a safety net. It's fucking difficult not to be miserable in this world and a natural reaction. The grave error is in being distracted and forgetting The Most High.
I'm not sure if you have to be an NPC to look around and feel happy regarding the nature of this world.
