2. Roaches emit a strong smell upon death which is which attracts the other roaches to eat them. This plan is a bit like letting ants draw pheromone paths all over your pantry before killing them. You may get a false positive that becomes a real infestation.
3. Only certain roach species infest houses, particularly the small ones like German roaches. It's true that seeing one usually means there are a hundred others, but many larger species will just appear randomly and it means nothing.
4. Roaches can flatten themselves to be paper-thin and take a lot to kill. It may simply be stunned or faking, so it could just get up and leave and you wouldn't know.
