radical red on normal is fine, it's not that difficult and there's no real restrictions use whatever you want. On hardcore though it is basically a puzzle game and not fun at all, no weather or stat raising moves for your pokemon. AI can use all that and get permanent buffs in some battles which is utter bullshit and you do need to cheese. It's not fun
