So during the leadup to this arc, I realized that something interesting (to me at least) is that the Sound goons played for sympathy, i.e. Zaku, Kin, and Kimimaro (to varying extents) are specifically not killed by any of the protagonists; not for lack of trying of course, and Zaku's career was basically over after he got BUGGED, but I started theorizing that the reason why the Sound 4 in comparison seem to be portrayed more like one-dimensional sadistic thugs with no real intentional depth to them is because Kishi made them with the idea that they would all get brutally killed by our HEROES at some point, so either he tried to keep them as straightforward villains so that the protagonists wouldn't be read as unsympathetic in some respect, or maybe on a more basic level it would just been considered too dark - and indirectly raising uncomfortable questions about the setting - if you gave them some visual backstory about these orphans getting groomed by a terrorist before getting:

>internal organ damage
>WEASEL'd
>literally shanked by a bunch of blades all over
