Here's where it gets weird again with the time travel and whatnot... so apparently the grey aliens are actually the future renditions of the people that are breaking away right now... Inbreeding over many generations mixed with high radiation exposure. The grays are the break away civs from the future coming back to the past, aka NOW, to try and prevent the people from going out and becoming grays in the first place. Total mind fuck.
