i feel like i'm going insane but genshin was never either of those?! genshin always had a range between medieval and steampunk and a good dose of magitech, you would be lying if you said you expected genshin to have fucking spaceship while playing through 1.0, nothing even remotely hinted at that.

if i had to give my own interpretation and opinion, they should have stuck with kaenri'ahs magitech, the ruin gards didn't feel like modern or futuristic technlogy that clashes with something so underdeveloped like mondstadt, they felt like magical golems and that kind of thing could fit with regions like liyue and mondstadt.

i hate natlan's modern approach and i don't appreciate nodkrai's futurustic scifi approach (even though i don't totally hate it either)
