I've been thinking about the Rabbi with a dog symbology that a very interesting anon posted in a previous thread. Does the dog represent, following the Zohar, that negative side that grows as we ascend, and threats to overcome us? So, the Rabbi with the dog is a symbol of mastery and harmony with that dark side?
