It depends on how you look at it. I subscribe to Dostoyevsky's philosophy, which sees pain as an agent of transformation and spiritual growth. Cruelty is inherent in those who have not suffered. Just look at world leaders like Netanyahu, who was upset because his son missed a wedding due to the war, while thousands of people had to watch their families die. At the end of the day, a life of pure suffering and a life of pure pleasure are redundant; there is no growth, no goal, both exist only for the sake of existing. Both ends of the spectrum are no different that slugs.

No, I just see him as entitled. I know that his entire arc was about gaining self-confidence and growing as a person, but he doesn't really do that until the last second of the game when he decides to press the button that Makoto told him to press and that Chiaki had to come back from the dead to convince him to press. Then the anime gave him all of Izuru's powers, and now he's a demigod without really doing anything. In a way, it bothers me when people are rewarded for nothing. If you like that, it's alright too, but for me it's just a power fantasy.
