I think the Shark team intro is probably my favorite non-tank portion of das Finale, possibly my favorite portion as a whole. Das Finale is clearly no classic GuP and is at its best when it's just embracing that they left reality behind. The Johannesburg of Oarai was a fun, over the top setting that introduced us to new characters and gave them time to show off their personality. I also just tend to think the Ankou team are pretty decent at being the protagonists, I generally enjoy their screen time more than other characters. Daikon War is basically just the DF1 scene adapted to an OVA. It's off topic, non-canon but is a fun mini episode starring characters I already like. Visually, I like the backgrounds as a nice change of pace, just like the DF1 slums.
The captain war OVA just doesn't work for me. It introduces a bunch of characters with decent designs, but they get so little screen time and dialogue they really don't contribute anything, kind of like the endless supply of Chi-Ha-Tan girls. The fan favorite appears to be the girl who looks like a dog, who doesn't say anything. I'd say it has the same appeal as the epilogue OVA where they're all doing skits, except we don't have as much time with the characters to make us care about them. Visually it's also just ugly, it's the worst GuP has looked since 2012, which is particularly offensive because DF takes so long to come out and we only get one of these each release. This OVA feels like the slapped it together just before release. I'd much rather get an actual story, a fun side-plot, or more background on already introduced characters than just a series of gags involving characters who will only be in this OVA and say 0-2 lines. But the designs are cute, the song is fun, most people seem to like them. Ideal solution would be more OVA's or better pacing on Das Finale in general.
