I don't think they've ever been super popular here outside of certain niches at least on real people.
Its fine on certain anime / game characters.
But also I think the stigma generated from BBC/Queen of Spade threads has made people more bothered by them as well.
I still enjoy womb tattoos or just cool magical rune tattoos a lot myself, but again only on certain characters all of which are fictional.
