I believe the Corpus Hermeticum speaks of the Planets (Spheres) as the Governors of God who essentially keep the cosmos together, the Planets do emit influences that affect us and our surrounding reality, only now we call those influences things like "radiation" and "magnetospheres", this is what Astrology has been about for thousands of years actually, for example the Moon is known to cause manias in people which is why we call those people LUNA-tics...
