How will the Ukraine join NATO when they are at war and any acknowledgement from Zelensky that Crimea, Zaporozhia, Kherson, Donetsk and Luhansk are Russian will result in the Zelensky regime being toppled by the military and the right sector/bandera militants?
Then there is the prospect that even IF Zelensky cucks out and isn't overthrown, that the Russians just decide to take Kharkov, Sumy, Dnepropetrovsk and Odessa to keep the SMO/CTO going. How politically viable is Zelensky then if he is forced to accept those territorial loses as well? Chernogov and Nikolaev oblasts are also potentially on the cards here, especially the latter for a stable land connection to Odessa and the former for an additional buffer-zone to protect Bryansk oblast.
That and the fact is that the Ukrainian armed forces and the country itself are rapidly evaporating away.
