It’s a quiet walk to the place where Hail said to meet up, nearly on the other side of the rebel encampment.

“Do you think that we’ll have any trouble with the others?” It pains you to talk about your precious squaddies like this, but you’re only having this discussion now for their own good. “Husk grew up in the Whitelake mines. The flavour of alien overlord might be different, but I can see him sympathising with these folks. Has he said anything?”

“Nothing beyond his usual sarcasm.” Crane answers with a shake of his head. “I imagine that he and Night Night will be quite insufferable with their commentary in the coming days, but they will fall in line.”

“What about Convict? Run in with the law, freedom after void knows how long in a cage. Could be a kindred spirit kind of deal.”

“Convict is hard to read, but I believe the man is a pragmatist at heart. He also owes you his life.”

You stifle a chuckle at the irony of Crane describing someone else as being indecipherable, but your Corporal has a point. Convict would never have made it out of that Yibrak research station alive without your help and that has served to warm the explosive’s expert up to you a great deal.

“And the new kid?”

“Rev Sev? I should hardly think so. Voidborn are-“

“Huh. I actually forgot about her. I meant Terri, though I guess she isn’t the new kid anymore.”
