We have tornadoes down here as well in Alabama. They destroy a lot of homes. I have lived in DC and they have a lot of storms being seaside and are technically a part of Appalachia as well.

These disasters affect the poor most of all. We wish for our masjid (mosque) to also function as a community tornado shelter. Domes add structural integrity and concrete coating seals out water.

This is why the Kaaba door is so high, also a brick structure. It is to keep out flood waters and deter invaders as well.

If you want to build something that lasts for hundreds or even thousands of years you have to be smart about how you build it.
