Yeah, Deux would be someone who'd fit in perfectly in a much darker Gundam story, like Zeta or IBO. In GQuuuuuux, she sticks out like a sore thumb. It's like having a light-hearted adventure story and then introducing a villain who wants to blow everything up because he was the only survivor of the death camps. The heroes quickly kill the villain, and it's quickly forgotten about afterward and never brought back up.
The more I think about it, the more Deux seems like an Anno shitpost towards Zeta and cybernewtype stories. Either that, or typical Tsuramaki expectation subversion to keep the audience guessing.
