I think SRB2 is the only fangame I played that played similarly enough to Sonic's action stages in the Adventure games. Obviously it's not the same, level design is more expansive and the looser controls can take a bit to get used to, it was enough to satisfy my desire for another game like it.
There's also an Adventure Sonic mod that feels nice to play
