Wrong, he was with his brother and father. They claimed they had "experience" with spelunking and he use to go to Nutty Putty as a kid. Big difference is he never went into the more difficult section of the cave (the birth canal section), he was taller, and also apparently got a bit overweight. He apparently got stuck, and rather way for his brother or someone else to pull his legs, he decided to keep moving forward until the tunnel went downwards and thought he could turn around. That was the decision that killed him.
