NTA but if somebody needs to use and betray me to feel like they're getting a one-up because I showed them kindness, then I won't stop them
They clearly need it more than I do, and I will continue to be the way I am because it's how I choose to be. If the person was always going to be this way, it's better that it happens to me who is better equipped to handle it and break a cycle than it would be for them to do it to somebody else and potentially perpetuate a problem by creating ripples.

There is strength in kindness and empathy in a world overrun with greed.
